Our next Teaching Yoga to Seniors 8-day trainings are scheduled at Duke Integrative Medicine for
October 25 - 31, 2010
Since 2007, we have offered a Yoga Therapy Intensive, "Teaching Yoga to Seniors," at Duke Integrative Medicine, part of the Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina. This pioneering program is designed for registered yoga teachers and combines the best of modern, evidence-based medicine with the ancient wisdom, experience and tradition of Yogic teachings.
Duke medical experts -- including physicians, exercise physiologists, physical therapists and health psychologists -- cover health conditions common to seniors, such as heart disease, arthritis and osteoporosis. As experienced Yoga Therapists, Kimberly and Carol provide hands-on training in appropriately modifying postures for safe and effective work with older adults both in a class setting and one-on-one. Special issues in teaching seniors are addressed, including pain management, spirituality and aging, end-of-life issues and integrating yogic practices into non-studio settings, such as in bed (hospital or home), wheelchairs and in daily life.
